Disclosure: “AI” is currently the most overloaded word in hosting marketing copy. This quarterly tracker exists specifically to separate features that do something measurable from features that are a chatbot bolted onto a signup flow. Findings below are from checking each host's current public documentation and product pages this quarter.

Why this needs its own tracker

Almost every hosting provider now has an “AI” line item somewhere on its features page, and the term covers wildly different things — from genuinely useful automated resource tuning to a rebranded onboarding wizard. Because the marketing language moves faster than the underlying product, a one-time “hosts with AI features” roundup goes stale (or misleading) within a quarter. We re-check quarterly and grade on whether the feature does measurable work, not whether the word “AI” appears on the page.

How to evaluate an “AI” hosting claim yourself

  • Ask what data it acts on. A real automation feature (like WP Engine's per-page plugin analysis) reacts to your actual site's usage data. A fake one is the same generic suggestion for every account.
  • Ask if it's reversible/inspectable. Legitimate performance automation gives you a log or diagnostic view of what it changed. If a feature just claims to “optimize automatically” with no visibility into what happened, be skeptical of the before/after numbers in the marketing copy.
  • Separate onboarding AI from infrastructure AI. A chatbot or setup wizard at signup is a UX feature, not a hosting-performance feature — useful for beginners, irrelevant to an already-configured site.

FAQ

Should “has AI features” factor into a hosting decision? Only the infrastructure-level ones (automated diagnostics, conditional resource loading) — weight those the same as any other performance feature. Onboarding-assistant AI is a nice-to-have for a first site, not a reason to pick one host over another for an established one.

Are these features free or plan-gated? Mixed — WP Engine's NitroPack integration and Kinsta's APM tooling are generally tied to mid-tier-and-above plans, not entry-level ones. Confirm plan-level availability before assuming a feature you read about applies to the cheapest tier.

Will this list look different next quarter? Likely yes — this category is moving fast and roughly a third of what's marketed as “AI” this quarter is repackaged UX rather than a new capability. That churn is exactly why it's tracked quarterly instead of as a static page.

Verdict

Most hosting “AI” this quarter is still onboarding polish rather than infrastructure automation — WP Engine's conditional plugin loading and Kinsta's automated diagnostics are the two features on this list that would actually change a performance number, not just a first-run experience.

Features we're watching but not counting yet

  • Predictive traffic scaling. Several hosts reference “AI-predicted traffic spikes” in marketing copy, but none we checked this quarter published a technical explanation of the prediction model or a customer-visible accuracy metric — until that visibility exists, we're treating it as marketing language rather than a verified feature.
  • AI malware/security scanning. A few hosts now label their malware scanners “AI-powered.” Most of these are signature-and-heuristic scanners that have existed for years, relabeled rather than rebuilt — worth asking a host directly what changed in the detection engine before crediting the “AI” claim.
  • Automated image optimization. Genuinely useful when present (server-side WebP/AVIF conversion, adaptive sizing), but this is a mature, well-understood technique, not really an “AI” feature in any meaningful sense — we track it separately in our image-optimization coverage rather than here.

The pattern across all three: the label gets applied broadly, but the underlying technology is either unverifiable from outside the company or predates the current AI marketing wave by years. We'll keep checking each quarter for hosts that publish real technical detail behind the claim.
