HostBenchLab exists because almost every hosting review online is written from a marketing brief, not a stopwatch. “Blazing fast” and “optimized for speed” show up on every hosting company's homepage — none of it tells you what your page's TTFB, LCP, or checkout response time will actually look like on that plan. We test hosts the way a performance engineer would, and publish the raw numbers instead of the adjectives.
What we do
We run controlled speed and reliability benchmarks on WordPress hosting providers — shared, cloud, and fully managed — and publish comparisons built on TTFB, Core Web Vitals, uptime monitoring, and load testing rather than opinion. Every “vs” and “speed test” article on this site exists to answer one practical question: on a normal, honestly-configured setup, which host is actually faster and more reliable for the kind of site you're running.
Our benchmark methodology
We don't take a host's own performance marketing at face value. For every provider or comparison we cover, we look at:
- Server response time (TTFB) measured on cold and cached requests, not just a single best-case sample — a host that's fast once and slow ninety-five times out of a hundred isn't actually fast.
- Core Web Vitals — LCP, INP, and CLS — tested under realistic page weight and plugin load, not a stripped-down demo install.
- Equivalent plan comparisons — we match tiers and price points as closely as possible before declaring a winner, because comparing an entry shared plan to a premium managed tier isn't a fair test.
- Uptime and incident history, tracked over time rather than a single snapshot, and cross-checked against independent monitoring where it's publicly available.
- Renewal pricing and what's actually included at each tier — caching stack, CDN, staging, backups — versus what's an upsell dressed up as a feature.
When pricing, plans, or our test results change materially, we update the review and note when it was last refreshed.
Why trust us
This site earns affiliate commissions when readers sign up through some of our links (see our Affiliate Disclosure for the full breakdown) — but a host doesn't get better numbers because it pays a better commission. Our benchmark results are the same whether or not we have an affiliate relationship with the provider being tested; if a well-marketed host posts a mediocre TTFB or a rough uptime month, we report it. A benchmark site is only useful if the numbers are real.
